Cypress in Custom House Plaza, Monterey, CA

We return frequently to Monterey, our old stomping grounds, just out of school. A typical slightly overcast morning was the start of painting that day in the plaza and I wanted to capture the duality of the organic cypress shape and the branch pattern juxtaposed to the linear Custom House, whose soft pastel colors made for a subtle frame.
